Portable Appliance Testing

The purpose of Portable Appliance Testing is to establish the safety of your electrical appliances through visual examinations and electronic tests. These tests should only be performed by qualified individuals who have the knowledge and training to safely test electrical appliances without harming themselves or others.

There are no specific requirements as to how often portable appliances should be tested. However, the Health & Safety Executive states that ‘it is an employer's duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees and other people who might be affected by their business.’ Electrical appliances that are frequently used in the workplace, such as kettles, photocopiers and vending machines risk the chance of becoming faulty or suffering a defect. If left unchecked, this could pose a threat to the health and safety of employees and visitors to your site.

Fixed Wire Testing (EICR)

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) test is a rigorous examination of a building’s electrical appliances and wiring systems. This test is recommended every five years. Each test highlights the condition of the electrical systems and when they are expected to require further work.
